At nineteen, I won the lottery, along with 84 other kids. A semester abroad at a 14th-century castle in the Netherlands. My dad had always told me that I was pretty lucky. Paris was my top priority for one or two of those long weekends. We were forever labeled “The Castle Kids.” Each semester had them. Those who didn’t attend weren’t quite sure what it meant— only that when we returned, we’d changed.
